Dr. Emmie Woerner
Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr. Emmie Healey Woerner is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Agroecology Lab at the University of Maryland, College Park. Emmie received a B.S. in Environmental Health Science and Technology and a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Maryland in 2018. After completing her undergraduate degrees, Emmie set out on a path to understand microbial water quality issues impacting coastal and agricultural communities. She pursued a M.S. in Marine Biosciences at the University of Delaware to research harmful algal blooms in the Delaware Inland Bays. Emmie completed her M.S. in 2021 and returned to the University of Maryland to work at the intersection of microbial water quality, urban agriculture, and public health for her PhD. Emmie embraced the opportunity to help urban farmers understand the feasibility of harvesting and irrigating with rainwater on their farms. She fostered a passion for effective science communication and community-based research in this role. As a postdoc in the Agroecology Lab, she hopes to learn from communities impacted by saltwater intrusion and contribute to resiliency efforts.
