Kat Raiano

Undergraduate Summer Intern (2023)

National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates

Kat Raiano is a senior at American University in Washington, DC, majoring in environmental policy and science and minoring in literature. They're one of the co-presidents of the AU Community Garden and are actively involved in fighting for sustainable and just food systems on and off campus. They worked with two other students to create the edible campus initiative to catalogue the edible plants on AU's campus and provide an educational storymap. Kat is from New Hampshire where they enjoy hiking, foraging, gardening, and generally being outdoors. This summer Kat is excited and honored to be part of the Critical Zone Network Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program working with the AgroEcology Lab to study how marsh migration will affect greenhouse gas fluxes and land use/management on the Eastern Shore.
