Sophia Marques

Undergraduate intern (Fall 2021-Spring 2022)

Sophie Marques is an Environmental Science and Technology major with a concentration in Natural Resources Management and minor in Sustainability at the University of Maryland-College Park. She is from Hopkinton, Massachusetts and is also a member of the Science and Global Change scholars program. She realized her passion for the environment and sustainable agriculture after attending a global student leadership summit in high school teaching students about the future of the sustainability of global food systems. Since volunteering at some of the sustainable gardens on campus, she gained interest in learning more about the research behind sustainable food systems. Working with the Agroecology lab has given her the opportunity to explore this through data organization about the benefits and uses of cover crops in an effort to help farmers adopt best sustainable management practices.
