Sam Hasselhoff

Undergraduate intern (Fall 2021- Spring 2022)

Sam is currently a senior at UMD studying Plant Biology. She joined the Agroecology lab in Fall 2021 to further increase her understanding of ecology and gain more experience in lab techniques.

She grew up outside of Annapolis, and as a kid and teen spent most of her free time outside playing in the woods and local waterways which really influenced her interest in the Chesapeake Bay’s health and the environment. Being aware of how important the health of our surrounding environment is to our quality of life has followed her all through life and has motivated her to pursue a degree in Plant Biology to help aid in understanding ways of protecting Maryland’s environmental and agricultural resources under the threat of a changing climate.

Sam volunteered at the Smithsonian Environmental Research center where she worked on their Fossils Atmosphere study. This opportunity got her interested in participating in research involving climate change. Understanding the relationship between different biosystems is one of the many things that interested her in working for the Agroecology lab.

Sam enjoys hiking in Maryland and West Virginia - especially the Catoctin Mountain Park and Patapsco (Daniels area) in MD, and the hiking trails at Coopers Rock and Harpers Ferry in WV.
